Philippine Science High School
career talk
The Philippine Science High School (PSHS) system, widely known as “Pisay”, is a network of public high schools for students with a strong aptitude for science and mathematics.
It was created by Republic Act No. 3661 in 1963 and is an attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology. Scholars study for free, and the aim is to prepare them for a career in science, although the schools also give attention to their academic, physical and social development. The system now has 16 campuses across the country.
My alma mater is the Western Visayas Campus in Jaro, Iloilo City, one of the early regional campuses, which opened in 1993. On October 3, 2023, I gave an online webinar to share my experience pursuing a career in physics research.
